16/12/06 -
Hurrah!
Those looking to see us at RagStock can enjoy a tiny nugget of Charlie and Matt action, as they'll be guest-performing with
our chums the Brontes in orderto showcase their song, "Sound!". Those of you familiar with Black Grape or Goldie
Lookin' Chain will enjoy this one-off treat, as Charlie will be producing his fine rapping voice, supported by some thumping
bass/guitar lines.
In actual
Ponies-news, the band will be travelling to PMT Birmingham in order to buy a snazzy electro-acoustic for Ben, before venturing
into the studio (no really, we mean it this time) to record Bright Young Things, and if we get a chance, re-record Honest
Blue. Swell.
12/3/06 -
Everything's
sound.
7/3/06 -
Hoorah!
I'm pleased to announce the creation of a new CHOON: My Hot Heaven, the creative love-child of Charlie and Matt. An absolute
beast, it's a cross between Bones 101 and Better Than You, with a hint of stadium rock. On its heels is the Dire Straits On
Speed (tentative title) song, which is finally getting lyrics. More in a few days, kids.
4/3/06 -
Alas,
while we whipped the competition in the audition, Cox's Yard still won't let us play RagStock, so the AGS band Too Far Gone
(ugh)(no offence) have taken our place. Not to worry, they'll be plenty of opportunity for you to see us live over the next
month or so, and our second EP-thing is well on it's way - 6 tracks mostly written so far. Good, eh?
Ah yes, and we
now have a MySpace account up-and-running - The Ponies UK. Horray!
1/3/06 -
Argh!
We're currently tussling with Cox's Yard about RagStock, as they're refusing to let us play due to the fact that we're playing
there a week later at Battle Of The Bands. Their argument is that by playing RagStock we'll have an unfair advantage,
as we can tell people to come to BOTBs. Isn't that just as unfair as playing a gig somewhere else, or emailing your friends
and telling them all to come?
Well they're making
us choose between charity and a popularity contest, which leaves us with an easy decision. If you'd like to see us at BOTBs
as well, then email them angrily! RagStock is on the 27th March, BOTBs on the 5th April. Cheers.
27/2/06 -
Well
it turned out that we actually had to audition for RagStock and the gig at AGS, but we passed both this lunchtime with a demonstration
of I'd Give It A Two and Better Than You. They were blown away, was the impression, so those two gigs are a cert.
In other news,
we had to yet again postpone the recording session, as we couldn't get the right kit there (thanks to freakin' Charlie, might
someone add), so that'll have to be re-arranged for a few weeks in the near future. Fortunately, some good has come out
of this - Matt's written an awesome solo to I Like Decadence, which means the overall quality of the song should improve,
not least because it means we have extra time to practise.
Finally, our myspace
account is being completed, so in a week or so you can start adding us to your friends list and spreading the 'Ponies-love'
like warm dung in an over-stocked stable. Or something slightly less repulsive.
23/2/06 -
Yo, I've some
good news for you: a fresh set of tour dates for your diaries at a number of venues in the Warwickshire area (get down
to the On Tour section for more information). Also, we're having a stab at some studio work on Sunday, with the intention
of recording Turkish [The Spirit Song], I Like Decadence and Bright Young Things, among some very special tracks (basically
we're just adding lyrics about certain psychology topics to a couple of songs - revision, baby)!
19/2/06 -
Matt
and Nick just got back from the Americas yesterday, which meant no gig on 17th, and due to Nick's slacker perogative, no recording
session today. Blast! Anyway, things are still moving on, with the recording session simply being pushed forward a week and
jams organised in order to complete the latest batch of choons.
Gigs-wise,
we'll be arranging a number for the end of February and March, so we'll keep you posted.
6/2/05 -
So Emma &
Lucy's party went pretty damn well, with us not only getting the crowd going but also selling our entire batch of
CDs. Good fun, in all. We're getting straight back into writing though, with a recording session happening a week on Sunday,
in order to stick Bright Young Things, I Like Decadence and Turkish [The Spirit Song] on t'internet.
We do like the
support we're getting for our live performances, so keep it coming, guestbook entry-ers. We promise to be nice in return, by
giving you free tracks and crap like that. Cheers!
2/2/05 -
Bonza! With exams
out the way we're back on the road to songwriting-dom. We're penning three more tracks at the moment, and they are: Over My
Eyes, The Kettle, and a brill choon along the lines of Dire Straits on speed. Good news for those going to this gig on Saturday,
VIP tickets will come served with a copy of Rule OK, so you can dissolve those post-exam blues with the wail of guitar flails
that is The Ponies. If you see us, give us a wave!
29/1/05 -
One or two more
jams before our first gig in two months, and unfortunately, I don't think I like Decadence will be good enough shape to make
an appearance. Never fear! Everything shall be ace, should you be lucky enough to get an invite to Emma & Lucy's
party. The Ponies Rule OK!
25/1/05 -
Gah! Ghastly but
inevitable news - The Ponies won't be playing on the 3rd, or the 17th, which is what the organisers moved it to. Half of the
band can't make the 17th, so those looking forward to it should try and get to one of our others in February (of which some
are of-yet-unannounced).
Slightly better
news is that recent jams have been fairly successful, and we're as tight as an elastic band, with a load more in the next
week and a bit. Oh, and if anyone has any decent contacts, we're running low on gigs, so any suggestions would be handsome.
Bonza!
Album of
the week: Wishbone Ash's Argus - freakin' get it now!
18/1/05 -
It's been a
bit odd these last few weeks. I suppose our excuse for no new news is that we've been revising for our January exams which
we're in the thick of at the moment, but we've still managed to squeeze in a couple of jams, and write three new songs. Along
with Bright Young Things and Turkish (The Spirit Song) that we've been harking on about for the last month, we've
neared I Like Decadence closer to completion, which may well feature in our February tour. Two other songs are extremely
promising, but probably won't be ready in time. Still, look out for them in our new setlist
Wahey! Those lucky few
going to Oxford's Dragonforce gig can revel in our glory, as we'll be making a delightful appearance,
friends. Those that aren't can buy tickets for £12.50 from various ticket offices on the net.
Finally, there's potentially
bad news on the horizon - the fellas organising the gig in Evesham (3rd Feb) may have hit a rut, as the venue's promoters
have over-booked. Could be canned/moved, then. Sorry about that.
5/1/06 -
Happy new year,
and all that muck. Yesterday we got word from Battle Of The Bands that we'll be playing with Down in 1980 and Circle3 - nice
blokes, but no, we hadn't heard of them either. Down in 1980 are like InFlames/Devil Driver and Circle3 are influenced by
Elbow and Damien Rice. That'll be on the 5th April, so gather your motley crews for that evenin' of entertainment.
In the mean time,
you'll be pleased to know we're busy writing new choons, with at least two more in the pipeline (now that Turkish (The Spirit
Song) and Bright Young Things are finished), and may well look to record a demo of the new ones in the next month of two.
We're aso on the hunt for a proper manager, and are splashing our CD earnings about in order to entice one. On a sidenote,
Matt has been made a signature plectrum called "Mother's Favourite" - if you're interested in buying some,
they go for £1 and are available through him or Oxford Guitar Gallery (South Parade, Oxford).
Keep downloading
those free samples. Ta.
27/12/05 -
Bonza! Matt's
got those four sample tracks up for your delectation, as promised. Yeah, 13 days is a long tomorrow, but you won't be whinging
once you've got your grubby mitts on these freebies. Enjoy.
You'll also find
a fresh version of Give The People What They Want. No lyrics, but it's got a fab solo and some catchy backing vocals. Matt
also cut out a verse & chorus to make it more downloadable.
25/12/05 -
Merry Christmas from the
Ponies, gang. Not much to report, unless you count Matt bitching up his main guitar and getting his 7 year old sister into
playing (she got a mini-electric for Christmas and he's teaching her). Nick's getting a FAT drum kit in a week or two, so
we've just been beefed up considerably, but are yet to jam this holiday. Happy New Year if we're too lazy to update the site
before then!
14/12/05 -
Honest Blue is getting
a bit of airplay over the next few weeks through the DJ El Goorf - I'll tell you how you can hear it when I get better
than crap details. I can confirm that the tracks off the CD made available in the Music section are Bones 101, I'd Give
It A Two, All This Year and National Hero, along with the internet-only and constantly updated Give The People What They Want.
*UPDATE* - no samples yet - we're not allowed. Tomorrow, my dears.
We had an ace jam this evening,
giving us the glorious nigh-on finished versions of Bright Young Things and Turkish (The Spirit Song), and we've decided to
make a video for Bones 101, which may well make an appearance here over Christmas. Keep your peepers peeled.
13/12/05 -
Great news! Our
cd (Rule OK) is out today and is selling like hotcakes for £3. If you want it signed, we'll be more than willing
to forge the signatures of the members not present, so long as you're satisfied. At the moment you won't be able to buy the
tracks from the internet, but we're looking into it for the near future. We'll have a few sample tracks up on the website
tonight so if you haven't seen us live or downloaded the limited-run tracks, then you'll have a chance to savour our choons.
More news on that postponed
gig - we can't do it until February, as the school arranged some turd-burger of an awards ceremony, and we've got exams come
January. Be patient and buy the cd. Cos it's cheap.
9/12/05 -
Bad news, I'm afraid.
Due to some legislation, we needed at least four members of staff from Alcester Grammar to attend tonight's gig, which
we couldn't manage in time. Therefore we plan to postpone it to 19th December (a week on Monday) providing we can still book
it, etc. We're really sorry to those who were planning to come, but we did work as hard as Charlie could to get it done. Look
forward to the next one, biz-natches.
On a far brighter note, our
cd (The Ponies Rule OK) is finished, so we'll be launching that over the next week. We'll have a number of copies to sell
at our gigs for £3 with a snazzy cover and 11 tracks. We're also entering the main Battle Of The Bands at Cox's Yard in 2006,
so we'll be going on that familiar journey all over again. And why not?
6/12/05 -
Still
no confirmation on Friday's gig, which obviously isn't good. Still, we're persistant, so it should happen anyway. Charlie
made some favourable [music] connections with relatives at a wedding on Saturday/Sunday and Matt just got back from Cambridge
interviews, so we're still exciting. If I may give some advice, listen to The Bear (radio station) over the next
week. Oh yeah, baby.
AC30! Matt and Charlie bought one,
and it's ace (it's also an amp, those not in the know).
29/11/05 -
Woops! Sorry, I didn't realise it had been so long. Well I've some good news - that gig with NFH and Tractorus should be going
ahead on Friday 9th December at Alcester Grammar's fancy hall. Word on the street is that we'll be showcasing one or two new
songs, as well as thrashing things up, Ponies-style, so it should be a good one.
You'll be pleased to note
that we're starting to put up the tracks from our recent recording sessions. First up is I'd Give It A Two in it's not quite
finished state, just as a teaser. The finished versions will be taking its place in a few days, so this is your only chance
to get this limited edition track, so get your sweaty mitts onto your keyboard and mouse and get downloading, you.
19/11/05 -
The Ponies completed ther first recording of the entire set list last night at Ben's studio. Well, some parts need to re-doing
before they're worthy of your ears, and that's been planned for Wednesday, with the mixdown and mastering to follow soon
after. Expect the set to be up on the site somehow at the end of the week, I reckon.
On another good note, erm.
I forgot. Oh well.
15/11/05 -
"Charisma" is the song joining Turkish and Don't Get Caught, and is looking to be a potential crowd favourite, and that
gig, yeah, well that's gone back to being unconfirmed, as we need to hassle teachers to overlook the ceremony and whatnot.
We've planned a recording session to follow up Sunday's botched attempt at Ben's studio so we can send some demos out to various
industry types. They'll also be coming up on the site for your delectation, and should include most of our live set list.
Cheers.

Three pieces in the making
now: Don't Get Caught, Turkish and yet another untitled one, but Charlie's coming up with the lyrics for that this very minute.
Better news, we've aquired a great deal of interest from a Birmingham promoter, who's looking into getting us a bunch of gigs
this December (in Brum, we expect). Also, a Vox AC30 amp is about to be purchased following a load of other kit from the NEC's
Music Live show that Matt, Charlie and Nick ventured into on Sunday. Oh yeah...
That 18/11 gig at Alcester Grammar
School Hall was been moved forward to Saturday 26th November, 7.30pm, as it was originally on the same night
as the "school play". We'll be playing with the revered Nerds From Hell and their good friends Tractorus - both of whom are
ace, despite dubious names. That's a good idea! The "Dubious Namery Tour 2005" it is. Tickets should be in the area of £3
and available on the door or from the sweaty palms of various cloven-hooved animals (i.e. us). Be there, please.
4/11/05 -
Sorry,
it's been a while, but we've been busy, I swear. That untitled song has now become the disgusting Don't Get Caught,
and another more adventurous song is getting lyrics put to it this very day.
We've
also made plans for a gig on November 18th, Alcester Grammar Hall, but this hasn't been confirmed yet, so keep coming back
here for news on that. Cheers.
25/10/05 -
Most of the band are galavanting on holiday this week, so the only progress we expect to make is through a small jam
between Charlie and Matt tonight - discussing our latest beauty of a song (as yet untitled).
It's been a while since I talked about jamming... What with all these gigs and whatknot, you begin to savour the finer
points of life. IT WAS MATT'S BIRTHDAY ON SUNDAY!!!1! RoXoR!! and such.
20/10/05 -
Baby!
Just back from the Henley gig, and it must be said that it was a bit of a blinder. Those that were there enjoyed an impromptu
cover of Napalm Death's infamous "You Suffer" (well known for being 1.8 seconds long) and an extended version of Better Than
You, with some fantasticly face-melting solos. A good time was had by all.
In other
news, we plan to be hitting the Alcester Grammar ring in about three weeks time (two weeks after half-term, erm...fact fans...(?)),
hopefully with those crazy Nerds From Hell kids, during a lunchtime and an evening. The lunchtime one will be free, but they'll
be a more than generously priced ticket for the higher quality eveing performance. Also, if you haven't heard, we'll have
a few higher quality recordings winging your way by the weekend after half term. Ta.
And Tim did some
backing vocals!
16/10/05 -
We've been having a bit of bad luck regarding practise times, recently, as a lack of full kit has hindered some recent progress.
Oh well.
Thursday!
13/10/05 -
Yessir, we've got the gig - 7.30pm, on the 20th - so be there. Just so you know, we've got two new songs on the way that
may well be showcased on that date, and the evening itself provides those who couldn't get in to Battle Of The Bands a personal
viewing (with the small entry fee going to charity). We're the only band playing, but the night is packed with some other
crap to do, so check it out.
Fabulous
news! Matt's just finished editting a tasty DVD of our first gig, and it's up for grabs if you ask a member of the band. It's
just a little something that'll no doubt become a stupendous collector's item, and they're going for £2.50 to cover costs
of production and materials.
11/10/05 -
But
wait, there's more! Our Henley contact for the 20th October gig has said that the band they booked instead of us aren't prepared,
so we may be jamming over there after all. So keep that Thursday free, as it's for charity. And if you hadn't noticed, we've
got a spankingly-good Gallery for you on the left. Enjoy!
09/10/05 -
Unfortunately, off the back of BOTBs, we've had both of our gigs coming up over the next week and a bit cancel on us. Boo!
On the brightside, the performance due on the 14th was merely postponed to a better venue - Shottery Hall, Stratford
- on Halloween (31st October, fact fans). We plan to use the extra time well, with at least two new songs in development currently,
and there are rumours of recording plans afoot, so keep your ears peeled, or something. Actually, don't do that, you'll
do yourself a nasty.
06/10/05 -
Hooray!
While most of you couldn't get in, we played an excellent set, but lost anyway. Due to Battle Of The Bands' turning
in to basically batle of the fans. And with Fear Of The West having eager fans turning up at 6 they of course won. So
hats off to them. Anyway, we're steaming ahead in terms of greatness, with several gigs hitting town over the next two weeks
- Greig Hall on the 14th and a charity gig at Henley Scout Hut on the 20th October. "Bit like Live8," according to Parky.
Yes.
04/10/05 -
One
day away, ladies and gentlemen, and we're nothing but cool and composed - and you can take that to the bank. Just back
from the final band session, and we've come a long way since March - hitting our aim of gigging by October early, which is
no mean feat. Hope you're all coming tomorrow, but be warned - if you want to get trebled to death (ie. get tickets) then be
queuing from 7pm at the latest. Whoop.
02/10/05 -
And
with a new month comes a new gig - this time in Salford Priors as a warm-up for Wednesday. Those who came enjoyed a rare set
featuring the one and only electronic drum kit, aided by a bit of Marshall amplification. Aside from a tuning problem that
went down during I'd Give It A Two and Nick thoroughly messing up the encore of Poor Old Harry, there were no noticeable hitches,
and once Better Than You kicked in there were people all over the place. Beautiful.
7pm, Cox's Yard, this Wednesday - see what you missed.
30/09/05 -
After
a successful days gigging, promoting and jamming, we the Ponies would like to inform you that the latest you should arrive
at Battle Of The Bands this coming Wednesday(with hopes of getting in) is 7pm, as there's normally about 400 people trying
to get in a venue only capable of 220 fans. Do your best, otherwise Charlie'll make you feel like those last 10 years never
happened...
26/09/05 -
For
some reason, we seem to be writing quite a few songs in the run up to BOTBs, as we've got a ballsy-rock gush and some good
ol' ponies riffs in the pipeline at present. Whether you'll see them on the 5th remains to be seen, but they'll be at a gig
within the month, I swear.
And you can take that to the bank.
23/09/05 -
This is an announcement regarding upcoming gigs. We've had a slew of invites for the coming month, but only one has been confirmed
as of yet, on the 20th October - Henley-In-Arden Scout Hut - for charity. To keep those dates free in your diary, check the
On Tour page. Cheers, luv.
22/09/05 -
Wahey! Charlie and Matt sat and wrote an all new song yesterday - a beautiful waltz - lyrics and all. And we plan to air it
in less than two weeks. Called "All This Year" it's a cracker for dancing, so make sure you bring your boots. We've got a
jam tomorrow as well and everyone is welcome to a small screening of our set-list as it stands from 4-4.30pm. Ta.

19/09/05 -
Hello.
And now for some good news. Yesterday we had a private gig in front of a select few, playing hit after hit with new
drummer Nick Ross. Yeah, once a couple of hiccups are out of the way, we reckon we'll be a shoo-in by the time BOTBs
swings around. We also recieved word yesterday that Ashes of Souls (no, we hadn't heard of them either) wanted us to play
with them at the Greig Hall on October 14th, so keep your peepers peeled to see if we confirm.
Watch out for a couple more announcements regarding performances soon.
17/09/05 -
Well
we had to have some bad news at some point, so it may as well be now - three weeks until Battle Of The Bands. Unfortunately,
the rest of the band feel that Tim is not right for the band at this moment in time, so as of today a replacement drummer
has been found in Nick Ross.
We'd seriously love to keep working with Tim, as he's a great guy, but it looked as though he might hold us back in certain
areas (with the deadline fast approaching), and we really don't want to have to blame an unsatisfactory performance on
anyone (except maybe Charlie). We've had great fun with him, and while starting the instrument 4 months
ago didn't seem like much of a problem back then, pressures have had the better of us, so we'll have to part ways. We'd
like to give him a proper send-off, as all Ponies deserve (which you should see in the near-future). Cheers, and we hope you
continue your merry drummer-boy march.
12/09/05 -
A
lov-er-ly set list has been displayed for your undeserving eyes, as well as a spritely load of lyrics to bolster Charlie's
reputation as a bard. Feast, my children.
10/09/05 -
Matt just finished work on updating the Too Good For That and Give The People What They want demos, making them nicer and
smaller in size (Give The People... anyway). Hope you enjoy!
08/09/05 -
We
took all but Tim to the first Battle Of The Bands meeting last night, turning up a smooth 45 minutes late to a one hour meeting.
Baby! The good news is we're pretty sure we're better than most, if not all of the bands there in terms of originality and
songs. Hopefully our musical...erm...talents won't let us down. No fear!
Get your tickets from somewhere! I don't think the cox's yard website is selling them yet, but check anyway. 5th October, £3, vote for us regardless of who's the best!
06/09/05 -
Charlie, Matt and Ben have been meeting up a fair few times since the last hunk of news, writing further guitar-based
material. Have A Dream About Me (which is completely acoustic) is far closer to being finished now, as is What I Used
To Do, Ibuprofen, Working Late, National Hero (which has been tweaked a bit) and I'd give it a 2. Running like clockwork,
baby.
03/09/05 -
Bags of work's been done over the
last week and a bit, unhindered by Matt and Hollis going on holiday. So far, we've got a host of new songs: Ibuprofen (a song
written on Matt's narrowboat), Bones 101 is complete, and Have A Dream About Me (which we worked on yesterday) is coming along
nicely.
Recording's on hold temporarily as we
work towards staging a few gigs these coming months, but Matt is still nonchalently hammering away at mixing and crap like
that. Who knows? Also, we've noticed great improvements in Charlie and Hollis (and Tim's been playing along to a metronome).
Congrats.
Last and by some means least, we'll be
updating the merchandise with some bargain threads/duds for those lacking bounteous wallets.
23/08/05 -
Wahey! Ben, Matt, Hollis and Charlie jammed today working
out a new song, Bones 101 (previously known as *Song For Lesbians*). Good stuff. Oh yeah, and Hollis bought a house of a bass
amp (150watts), so now as well as trebling grungers to death, we can make them brown themselves first with bass. Nice.
19/08/05 -
A bit of good news - we made Battle Of The Bands (Cox's Yard,
Stratford)! We'll be playing on October, 5th if all goes to plan, so gather your friends and perpare for a good time, or something.
Please.
18/08/05 -
For some reason, while Matt and Ben were
away, Charlie created a brand new page! Also, today, the Ponies got their results. Charlie's weren't great, but hey, nothing
new. Charlie also went to hospital for an operation, as it was a day of many halves. They cut through some bone and made some
other pointless and hilarious incisions, all under the cover of general anaesthetic.
And a good time was had by all.
11/08/05 -
Charlie decided to cover Hollis' work today
due to Hollis "underestimating" a large pile of manure in his Land Rover (I'm serious - ask him about it) so Matt was left
all alone for the day. With the free time, Matt recorded a new Ponies track called Give The People What They Want which you
can access through a link on the Music page.
Ah yes, and you may have noticed an extrea link on
the left there - Some of Charlie's lyrics are up on the site for you, with many more (and some of Matt's) to come. Enjoy!
6-9/08/05 -
Matt and Charlie had three days (6th-8th)to produce a 4 demo for battle of the bands (Cox's Yard, Stratford) in the studio,
as Tim and Ben were away, while Hollis didn't know the basslines. Unfortunately, many a problem got in the way, with
Matt's latest equipment dying taking a day to get around, as well as the fact that Matt did every single instrument
part (and the back vocals). Fortunately, work was swift, with Charlie coming in to perform vocals and provide some knowledge
in order to hand in the demo right on the deadline.
Due to the pressure, we had to hand in the tracks whether or not we were happy with them, but just for you, we chose to finish
them (on the 9th) for your delectation, with them currently residing in the Music section. The tracks were (in order): the previously unheard Honest Blue, National Hero, Poor Old Harry
and Too Good For That. National hero will be put up tomorrow if all goes to plan, as a new lead guitar part needs to be ruthlessly
inserted.
And be nice to Matt, he hasn't had much
sleep.
1-2/08/05 -
With Tim away and Ben leaving on Thursday, Monday and Tuesday
had to be damn productive. And damn productive they were. Linking up with Charlie and Hollis, Matt and Ben forged some guitar
and basslines to almost complete What I Used To Do and Honest Blue, with some tasty recordings coming out at the end (which
has affectionately been dubbed the Shagpile sessions due to Hollis' beast of a carpet). The recordings are preliminary demos
done on Ben's 16-track and are to be re-recorded in Matt's studio next week in order for Cox's Yard to give us the green
light for Battle Of The Bands, and should (at least Honest Blue) be up on the 4th.
Oh, and Charlie and Matt'll be cruising around Stratford and Birmingham with guitars on the 4th/5th repectively, so don't
hesitate to give us money.
29/07/05 -
Tim and Ben went over to Matt's again to work on the two latest track, along with a little What I Used To Do. They're coming
along very nicely at the moment, and we're hoping to record them next week, with the intention of posting them up on here
27/07/05 -
Matt and Ben got together today at Matt's studio for the first of a number of sessions over the next week or two,
working on Honest Blue (which we'll be posting a demo of some time next week) and *Song For Lesbians* (TBC), which were both
sounding ace. Smokin'! 10/07/05 -
Well it looks as though The Ponies are to be playing the
Cox's Yard Battle of the Bands come Setember/October, so you can bet that we'll have played a show or two before
then (to warm up). However, only Matt and Charlie have discussed it, as the other members were elsewhere in the country
this week. We'll keep you posted.
10/07/05 -
A repeat visit to P.M.T was in
order today, taking Tim rather than Hollis (who was working) to check out the drum section, as well as allowing Charlie and
Matt to check out the guitars a bit more. Good fun was had by all, to cut a long story short, and we're looking to go
again at some point to purchase a Vox AC30 Custom Classic Combo (a very nice amplifier). Oh yeah, and we put the Ponies Trolley
"outside" Toys 'R' Us as well. Ho ho ho...
Anyways, it was also the day of Charlie's
birthday party at his house. Wahey! Leaving it in a good state, we're now looking towards the next week, in which we're all
on work experience. Charlie didn't get any, so he's cleaning the Alcester Grammar toilets for a week, while Matt is writing
the music to a fashion show. The other three are probably doing something worthwhile.

A
bit belated (it's Wednesday today), but on Sunday, Hollis, Matt and Charlie took the day off to travel to Birmingham in search
of the massive Professional Music Technology store (the largest in Britain). The aim of the game was to come back with a shiny
new bass for our trusty four-stringer, but we ended up coming back with a lot more.
On the way to the shop (we spent 40
minutes looking for it, even though it was a 10 minute walk from the station), an abandoned trolley lay by the road, not seemingly
belonging to anywhere (except for the Toys 'R' Us logo, but there wasn't one in sight). Anyway, we picked it up, thinking
it would be a great storage thingy for our guitars on the way up. And indeed it was.
So good, in fact, that once we'd
spent six hours trying out guitars and basses (we bought Hollis a nice Fender Jazz bass), we decided that we'd ask the
guard at the station nicely if we could take it home on the train. To cut a slightly extended story shorter, we rode home
in the disabled area to Wilmcote, with the intention of walking five miles across countryside with the trolley in about an
hour and a half. Success!

Hooray! If any of you had been watching Glastonbury
2005 on BBC today, you would've caught a half-second glimpse of Charlie and Tim on TV! Watching Kaiser Chiefs' Everyday
I Love You Less And Less (which is turd), both were dancing along near the front of the stage. However, befitting
the lewdest member of the band, Charlie was unwittingly giving the Kaiser Chiefs/the whole of Britain the
finger. How's that for publicity?!
20/6/05 -
Having successfully climbed the highest
mountain in North Africa (at a cool 4200m), it appears that Matt and Charlie were suitably inspired, penning some Moroccan-influenced
tracks on two smuggled half-size classical guitars. Hopefully they'll be recorded in about a fortnight, as
most of the band are off to Glastonbury and then doing some more hiking, for some reason. In the meantime, you can check out
Music for some rubbish on them.
Hollis also appears to be buying a new bass and
amp this week, which might be good for a laugh. Also, Matt is getting a studio built in his garden which should
be finished around the time the group get back from trekking. Trés bon.
Oh yeah, and Ben, Matt & Charlie had a tiny
jam today, working on Honest Blue, which is coming along very nicely.
12-19/6/05 -
Charlie and Matt are hiking to Morocco for essentially
a week-long jam up a mountain. Hopefully they'll return with some decent licks. And a sense of rhythm.
9-10/6/05 -
Beginning on the 9th and going most of the way through
to 8pm on the 10th, Charlie, Tim and Matt had a nice long jam and recording session. Staged at Charlie's "crib," Matt and
Tim left their equipment overnight, having created a brand new song (well, we'd tried writing music to the lyrics four times
previously), called What I Used To Do.
Matt scrapped the music he wrote to it at the last
jam, completely re-writing it along with Timmy on the drums, and Charlie manning the mic. Anyway, it rocks like a bitch, and a rough recording of it (with organic drums, for the first time) will be on the
way soon.
We managed not to waste all the available time,
re-recording most of National hero, which is now a little crazier than it used to be. Get to Music now for streaming.
1/6/05 -
Today we had an
organised BBQ, so thought we'd best take the opportunity to have another jam, albeit with just Charlie Matt and Timmy, who
is making a great deal of progress with his drumming.
Anyway, Matt wrote some
music for one of Charlie's finer efforts - What I Used To Do, which is coming along nicely. And the BBQ was good
too.
28/5/05 -
Matt, Ben and Charlie met up at Charlie's "crib"
for a writing session yesterday, after they tried and failed to find a room for a jam with a record 4/5ths of the band.
But, it was not to be.
However, while they wasted most of the day, they
somehow managed to write nearly two songs during twenty minutes. One of which has now been altered by Matt into an entirely
different beast called Working Late. Oh yes.
24/5/05 -
Too Good For That has now been added to Music, so get your ass there now. NOW!
20/5/05 -
Well, Ben, Matt
and Charlie planned to go busking today in Stratford town, but were halted by weather. Rather than wasting the opportunity,
we had a jam and mini-recording session, writing one new song, adding touches to several others, and recording four fresh
takes on previously unheard material.
The demos can now be streamed for free from Music, so don't you fret.
10/5/05 -
Good news!
We've just acquired a load of gear:
- Ben's just got a 16-track digital recorder off his
insurance (he broke his 4-track by pouring wine on it)
- Matt got a load of PA stuff, and the program Melodyne, which is pretty ace.
- Charlie just bought a very nice Gretsch guitar
- Hollis is about to get a nice bass/amp
- Tim...well, Tim's borrowing Matt's drum kit until he
can be bothered to get his own.
Anyway, we've given ourself until about October to play a gig, so
expect to hear some more of us if you live in the Warwickshire area. And you do.
